“I invite all the countries to rethink their position. We consider that use of drugs must be illegal” the Leader pointed at the Allen & Company Annual Conference in Sun Valley, Idaho.
Sun Valley, Idaho, United States, July 9 (SP). Before an audience of 300 people between business leaders and politicians, President Álvaro Uribe Vélez invited all the countries of the world to consider the negative consequences of legalizing personal dose of drugs.
This was pointed by the Head of State during the Allen & Company Annual Conference in Sun Valley, Idaho.
“I invite all the countries to rethink their position. We consider that use of drugs must be illegal. Obviously, with all the considerations to establish the difference between those who are sick and those who are just criminals” the Head of State pointed.
He said that in Colombia we have production; trafficking and around one million Colombians are consumers. He reminded that, considering this, the Government promotes a Constitutional amendment to abolish the legality of the personal dose.
“To make any kind of use of drugs illegal, because behind consumption are the traffickers. The use of drugs is a way to commit children with drug trafficking, with crime”, the Leader emphasized.
In addition, he denounced that drug traffickers have destroyed two thousand hectares of rainforest in Colombia and have replaced it with illicit drugs crops.
“The biggest contribution of Colombia to the world, to fight global warming, is to preserve the rainforest. And my answer is: you must rethink your position, because drug trafficking is the worst enemy of our jungles”, he said.
